Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Excuse the outburst of joyful satisfaction, but this Mary joint got me amped. The original instrumental is taken from P. Diddy/Dirty Money's joint "Someone To Love Me" produced by Wyclef Jean's partner in crime Jerry "Wonder" Duplessis and Arden "Keyz" Altino off the Last Train To Paris album.

It's the first single off her upcoming album My Life II: The Journey Continues that is scheduled to drop September 20 and to feature production from amongst others Kanye West, Danja, Swizz Beatz and Norwegian super producers Stargate.

The album title suggests it to be the sequel of Mary’s 1994 album My Life which was mostly produced by the good old Puff Daddy and is without the shadow of a doubt one of the best R&B albums of all time (regardless of religion or personal preference). This is a great start and I hope the other tracks stay on this 90's tip.

What could bring more joyfull bliss to my cluttered living room table than a fresh side dish of John Legend & The Roots to complete my Coco Pops breakfast?

It's no secret to any of you that know me personally or that used to read the Supa Fresh! blog (R.I.P.) that I'm a diehard Roots fan. I treasure the day I had the pleasure to meet and spin with ?uestlove and to greet my Hip Hop superhero and all time favourite MC (or at least top 3) Black Thought.

The new joint off the John Legend & The Roots Wake Up! album "Hard Times" (a remake of the Curtis Mayfields original) is a heartfelt, energy driven, headnodic anthem for the troubled strugglers of the big city and it grasped my inner ticker like a bad ass lion on a gazelles ass! I love it when artists don't just try to re-make the originals but actually take them to a whole different place making the tracks they're own by adding they're personal flava and energy to them:

Reason why? Well, your checking this blog for a reason, you expect me to fill in your time void with knowledge, amusement and random facts and fuckery, and since I love to indulge your nasty little habits, here is a snack from the 70's:

Dope uh? You probably heard the "Now what we gon' do right here is go back, waaaaaay back, back in to time..." sample 100 times on a bunch of 90's Hip Hop and R&B joints, but did you know where it came from? Well, I used it for the beginning of my 90's R&B mixtape back in 2008 and I decided to figure out where the original came from. I like ORIGINAL! Original is the shit!

New Kanye joint produced by the man himself, No ID and Lex Luger. Beat sounds like it's been laying around in Kanye's laptop for a while, verses are sick tough. I have to give it up to dude, he's really put in some time in to his lyrics this time round, I mean, he's always been dope, but this time round...Shits hotter than july (anywhere but in Norway).

The verses are dope and it's always cool to get to listen to Charlie and all, but honestly, I expected something a little more innovative on the beat tip. Oh well, can't have it all and I will probably give it some iTunes rotation when "Power" gets worn out if he doesn't drop that new "All Of The Lights" joint he previewed on Ustream that he said should be out in about 2 weeks time.

J. Cole - Blow Up

For those of you that followed the Supa Fresh blog before I decided to do the .com thing on my own, you already know how I feel about J. Cole and his role in todays Hip Hop circus. For those of you who haven't been following me for that long, to make a long story short, J. Cole's the truth, a 3 course gourmet dinner served at the Hip Hop restaurant where you've been eating Happy Meals for a year now but refusing to change restaurant cause the food used to be the bomb. You thinking tomorrows the day and sometimes you might even get free desert, but truth is, the waiters and the cooks haven't been doing you good for a loooooooooong time. So, now that I got my metaphoring on, it's time to serve you breakfast!

J. Cole produced "Blow Up" himself and like every other track he has put out so far, it's worth every second of your time. The lyrics are sick (as usual), the beat is bangin' and eventough he says "This is song for my haters..." I don't know who the hell he could be talking about, can anybody hate on Grown Simba??? All I can say is, I hope November comes faster than a 14 year old virgin poppin' viagra so we can get that J. Cole album.

Kanye West's video for his latest single "Power" is, not unlike the single cover to the left by artist George Condo, nothing less than what you'd expect of one of the greatest artists of our time: creative, groundbreaking, artistic, risky and yet another proof of his hunger for originality and artistic craftsmanship. It's directed by video installation genius Marco Brambilla and to quote Kanye West himself, it's not a video...it's a painting".

Cool uh? I liked it too, yet while writing this post I found myself far more interested in exploring Marco Brambilla's work which I was completely unaware of, than on writing about Kanye West's new video the easy way, by attributing him with the credit for the work of art it is.

Marco Brambilla (64) is, according to Wikipedia, an Italian-born Canadian artist and filmmaker who works in the United States. Prior to his decision to focus on video installations in 1998, he directed commercials, feature films and the science fiction movie Demolition Man (1993) starring Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes. After looking through his website and watching some of his other installations, I couldn’t help but to wonder how much time he must have put in to his projects and I am completely stunned by his jaw dropping work. Serani & Bugle - Feels Like Music (video)

I usually like most of the stuff both Serani and Bugle put out, but I have to say I ain't too crazy about this one...Beat is wack, lyrics are way too simple, no deejaying, no patois, just plain "let's make a hit" music. Now you might be asking yourself, why are you wasting my time with something you ain't really feeling? Well, there's an answer to that, I love the cheap green screen effects! They could have used it for at least 10 other tracks each, but oh well, better luck next time.

Waka Waka What? The original joint!

Did you also find it sad that Shakira got the official world cup anthem with "Waka Waka" ages after K'naan did "Wavin' Flag"? "Wavin' Flag" was way better written and uplifting, minus Shakiras booty shaking? And why doesnt the black girl that is featuring in "Waka Waka" get any featuring credits?

I think an african artist should have had the honor to do the official joint don't you? Think of Angélique Kidjo, Cesária Évora or better yet South Africas own Ladysmith Black Mambazo putting theyre blood, sweat and tears in to a track that would come in to the homes of billions! That would have been something to remember!

I actually enjoy much of the "Waka Waka" joint, I don't blame Shakira for any of this, I think she did a great job and that she is a great artist. True my forehead looks like a shar-pei during the verses at times, but I guess it's my old Hip Hop (pre Hip-"Pop" era) anti-everything comercial state of mind kicking in, I shake it off real quick by thinking of the millions of kids the song appeals to.

Now that we got that out of the way, what I had foreseen as a short post turned in to a long ass lecture. I just wanted to say that I found the original track that Shakira samples and that I am pleased to have a "Waka Waka" I can listen to and spin without having to feel like I'm supporting THE MACHINE! Hehehehe...

The original version is performed by the cameroonian group Golden Sounds and is called "Zangaléwa" (sometimes also referred to as "Zamina mina"). In the video, they wore military outfits, fake beards, stomachs and asses and they made funny dances to ridicule the soldiers. The song was such a success that the group eventually changed they're name to "Zangaléwa". The lyrics of the song criticise the black soldiers that allied with white to oppress they're own people.

UPDATE: Turns out 80's merengue girl group Las Chicas del Can from the Dominican Republic did a version of "Waka Waka" back in '82 already! It was called "El Negro No Puede" and its considered to be a merengue classic! Check out the video:

- Afro-Beat group Cacique '97 from Portugal/Mozambique just put out theyre new video for "Sr. Diplomata" featuring Hip Hop artists from Portugal, Angola and Cape Verde.

One of them is one of my favourite MC's from Lisboa from back in the day Sagas. I remember recording this radio show more than 10 years ago where Sagas and Mars did a track that I listened too continuously everyday for like a month! If anybody out there has it, HIT ME UP! The chorus went something like:

"Yo, Sagas estás comigo? Ya mano tou contigo. Na boa e no perigo, podes contar comigo..."

But back to the video and the track, feeling it, I definitely need to check out the album. I'll keep you guys posted.

If your in anyway a fan of Diplo, his label Mad Decent, any underground music or movement or well fuck it, music in general, you should check it out. I loved the quote at the bottom, pretty much expressed and explained what I've been trying to tell people about Hip Hop lately:

After blogging at supafresh.no for a while, I thought it was about time that I'd do my own blog and start giving you some daily updates and full info on what I'm up to for the 2 of you that actually care...

So this is the first post, and I ain't gonna make it a long ass list of promisses on what I will and wont put up, truth is, I will put stuff out here when I feel like it and it might be anything from a picture of my dog to a new tune I might like ir maybe even a brownie recipe...
